American Author Thesis
Now that you have written your essay, we ask that you reflect on the reading portion of the experience and write 100-150 words about your author.
Think of what you write as advice for someone next year and beyond, someone who (like you were doing last fall) is thinking about choosing your author - and maybe even the same three books - to read for the assignment.

Zora Neale Hurston
I personally really enjoyed reading Hurston’s novels, short stories, and plays. At the same time, however, I know she is not for everybody. Many of her stories are centered on romantic relationships, so if you don’t like reading about love and drama then I would stay Hurston is not a good pick for you. Hurston uses language beautifully in her writing. She proudly shares the stories of the American South that often get left untold, and does so with gorgeous authenticity. Her books are fairly short and the plots are easy to follow, but there are a lot of hidden meanings to keep an eye out for. Hurston would work well for someone who is looking for a challenge and wants to get a unique perspective on both the literature and the cultural history of America.
