Wilson documents the lives and the hardships of African Americans throughout 20th century. I highly recommend Wilson’s works because they have a clear common theme throughout. I read Fences, which was interesting because Wilson had multiple plots without it being overwhelming. I also read The Piano Lesson, which had many clear themes. I read Jitney, which became a bit boring because it was a tad repetitive until the end. The last play that I read was Joe Turner’s Come and Gone was my favorite because it was about boarders in a lodging house, so there was many different plots that managed to intertwine and connect to each other. I mostly enjoyed reading his plays because they all had an intriguing plot. Although finding themes was hard, the process (note cards and thinking papers) was difficult for me because his plays are rather short.

American Author Thesis

Now that you have written your essay, we ask that you reflect on the reading portion of the experience and write 100-150 words about your author.

Think of what you write as advice for someone next year and beyond, someone who (like you were doing last fall) is thinking about choosing your author - and maybe even the same three books - to read for the assignment.
