American Author Thesis
Now that you have written your essay, we ask that you reflect on the reading portion of the experience and write 100-150 words about your author.
Think of what you write as advice for someone next year and beyond, someone who (like you were doing last fall) is thinking about choosing your author - and maybe even the same three books - to read for the assignment.

Of John Updike’s books I read The Centaur, The Terrorist, and Seek my face. Now length wise John Updike never really strays over the three hundred mark, at least not in the three that I read. This means that you don’t have to worry about trying to squash in fifty pages of reading at the end. However do not take the length to mean that the books are by any means a walk in the park. In each one he stuffs as much detail as he can into them, sometimes nearly drowning out important details with the shear mass of description. There is also the fact that Updike includes a ton of social criticism that is bordering on ranting. I would recommend this to someone who wants a challenge, is very good at picking up buried themes/ideas, and is an efficient skim reader.
