My author for my American Author Thesis was Julia Glass. Frankly I regret choosing her because I didn’t enjoy reading her books. I read The Whole World Over, I See You Everywhere, and And The Dark Sacred Night. My favorite of the books was I See You Everywhere but she switched between the perspective of the two characters suddenly and with little warning. I found myself not realizing whose perspective the passage was in until I was halfway through that passage. Her books are enjoyable if you like the theme of complicated family relationships. She talks about rape, miscarriage, the loss of a sibling when they are young, divorce, abuse, and many more. If you don’t like reading about these topics then do not read Julia Glass. What I did like about her books was how real they felt. It was like you were looking in on someone’s life and you got to see not only what was happening but what they were feeling too. But if you are someone who likes to read books that focus on the topic of family relationships, specifically difficult family relationships, then Julia Glass is the perfect author for you to read.

American Author Thesis

Now that you have written your essay, we ask that you reflect on the reading portion of the experience and write 100-150 words about your author.

Think of what you write as advice for someone next year and beyond, someone who (like you were doing last fall) is thinking about choosing your author - and maybe even the same three books - to read for the assignment.
