I really enjoyed reading Dennis Lehane. His books were captivating and action packed. His books take place in or around Boston which makes it easy to understand the atmosphere of the area where the action takes place. His books deal mainly with law enforcement subject and I found them all very interesting. His books are also around 400 pages each which makes them easy to handle in the time given to read each one. I find his books are more written for enjoyable purposes and it can be difficult to find a good thesis about all of his books. I definitely recommend reading his books, they are very enjoyable and you will find yourself wanting to find out what will happen next.
If you enjoy mystery novels of a good length, then I would recommend Dennis Lehane. His books take a while to get into, but once you get into it, it is hard to put the book down. I liked mystic river and a drink before the war. I also read gone, baby, gone, but it was difficult to include that book in my thesis. I would recommend Dennis Lehane for the author thesis project because his books are fun to read. The only disclaimer is that all of his books include some sort of child molestation. If you like mystery novels thenyou will like Lehanes books
If you take pride in being from New England and want to read some books that will make you laugh than Lehane is the one for you. his books are a like an episode of CSI. A plus is that his books are about 300 to 400 pages which is a nice cut down compared to some other authors on the market. For me his books read more like watching a movie and I never felt obligated to go sit down and read for the first time I looked forward to reading a book. After reading his books it was tough to come up with a thesis but he is a legend.
I really found Dennis Lehane's writing awesome. I don't really like to read, however his writing was actually entertaining. Although his books are a little lengthy, 400 pages, once you get into the thick of the book, you don't even care how long it is. The only problem with reading his books are sometimes you forget to take notes while reading because you are so interested in what is going to happen next. The books that I read were Gone Baby, Gone, Mystic River, and A Drink Before the War. Of the three I liked Gone Baby, Gone the best so if you choose him, I advise you to read this book.
If you have an interest in deep, involving, and intense murder mysteries that take place in and around Boston, then Dennis Lehane's books are for you. Lehane explores the gritty nature of Boston detectives. If you enjoy medium length books that delve into winding roads of plot and character development then you will love Lehane's novels. However, his books are not for the faint of heart as his mysteries range from discussing a plethora of modern social problems. His novels range from child molestation to murder and illegal experiments. If you enjoy profound mysteries then Dennis Lehane's books are for you.
I enjoyed the style and stories in Dennis Lehane's books. The mysteries are captivating and unexpected. Because the books are so long though, at some points i felt it was dragging on and getting hard to pay attention to. Forming a thesis to connect the three books I read was surprisingly easy. I read Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, and Shutter island. There were many similarities in these books. Shutter island was slightly harder to connect together with the other books, but not impossible. I would recommend watching the movies to his books after you read them. For the most part the movies are true to the literature and seeing the way the director interprets the dialogue and themes is very interesting. If you are willing to take on the challenge of reading longer mystery books, Dennis Lehane is a very interesting Author.
Ps. Don't judge the book by the first couple pages because it gets much more exciting as the book goes on.

Although his novels were somewhat long, the writing style of Lehane kept me wanting to read more. His stories, based in the Boston area, were very interesting because I could relate to the areas he was describing. Sometimes the novels can be somewhat violent and explicit, but this allowed the stories to be very realistic. Mystic River was probably my favorite out of the three that I read of Lehane. I also read Gone, Baby, Gone and Sacred. I found it a little difficult to find a common theme in all three of these books, but it worked out well in the end. I found his novels very intriguing and I found myself having a hard time putting down his books because I wanted to find out the mysteries in each novel.
I really enjoyed reading the Dennis Lehane mysteries. His Boston area mysteries were extremely hard to put down, very enticing and fun stories. His 350 - 500 page books were quick reads but very enjoyable all the while. I read "Sacred" and "Mystic River". Although they were tough to form a thesis out of, they were both very enjoyable but shocking twists and conclusions. "Sacred" by Lehane, a fast paced mystery starts when a girl goes missing after the death of two loved ones and the life threatening cancer her father was diagnosed with. "Mystic River" begins when three friends are torn apart when one his molested and is a prime suspect 25 years later when the other friends daughter is murdered. These fantastic Lehane books are great reads and I would recommend these mysteries to anyone searching for entertaining Author Thesis books.
Dennis Lehane writes longer books than most of the other authors, so if you are willing to take the time, I think he is a great writer. He describes scenes in Boston and as you are reading, you can get the sense of connection to the setting much better than other books. Lehane writes suspenseful stories about the law and explains them in detail. By the end of each section a book was due, I found myself having to read one hour or more a night. I would recommend Dennis Lehane, just be prepared for the commitment, but over great author and intriguing plots.
If you enjoy thrilling, moving, mysteries, Dennis Lehane is for you. Within his novels, he creates a dark and twisted environment in which his stories flourish. This really draws your attention and keeps you begging for more once the story has finished. Lehane winds intense suspense into his novels—Shutter Island is full of it. Two of his other novels, Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River, are gripping stories, however are loaded with violence and some minor molestation. These two go together excellently when it comes to writing, however, if you choose to write about Shutter Island as well, be cautious, as it is somewhat different from Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River.
I chose Dennis Lehane because I liked the mainly Boston themed story lines and because I saw a coming attraction for Shutter Island in theatres and it looked like an interesting book to read. I read Mystic River, Shutter Island, and Gone Baby Gone. Shutter Island was the easiest read while Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone were both more difficult but definitely manageable. This author’s books were somewhat easy to write about because he uses a lot of common symbols and metaphors throughout his novels. I would definitely recommend Dennis Lehane because his books are both interesting and full of meaning. All I would say for tackling his books is to organize a schedule and keep with it and his books are very manageable. (125)

Master of mystery and thriller novels, Dennis Lehane leaves his audience wanting to read for hours. I am not the biggest fan when it comes to reading, however, Lehane left me hooked on all of the books I read by him. The books that I read were Gone Baby, Gone, Moonlight Mile, and A Drink Before the War. In all three of these books, the main characters Patrick and Angie, both detectives in Boston, constantly deal with the struggle of what is right and what is wrong. I would strongly advise anyone to read his novels because they are very interesting and if you enjoy a good mystery novel, than Lehane is a good fit for you.
Overall, Dennis Lehane was a very enjoyable to read for the Author Thesis Project. The works that I read were Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, and Prayers For Rain. Although all of these novels were over 300 pages they were not difficult to finish. Lehane uses dialogue to create the majority of the story accompanied by strong descriptions that really bring the story together. The three works I choose all had similar and reoccurring themes, which really helped craft, a thesis statement about all the novels. Each novel is full of action that makes the reading enjoyable. All in all I would highly recommend Dennis Lehane as an author for this project.

For my author thesis I read Coronado, Mystic River and Prayers for Rain. I have also read Shutter Island and Live by Night for fun. All of his books appear plot driven at the surface but he digs deep into developing his characters and human nature. All of his books are exciting but are very dark. I enjoy dark literature but I would not recommend his books for people who prefer uplifting and happy stories. Many of his books incorporate psychology and criminology. There were many different reoccurring themes throughout his novels, so many that it was difficult to choose what theme to write about. I would highly recommend him to students in any level of english.
If you closely identify with your Massachusetts roots and enjoy following characters who encounter many of the same experiences you have growing up here, than Dennis Lehane is the author for you. Lehane grew up in Massachusetts himself and as a result many of his novels are set in or around Boston. Lehane's novels are unique because they do not solely focus on the "touristy" attractions of Boston such as Fenway Park and the Charles River, but instead focus on the gritty neighborhoods where crime and violence is commonplace. Lehane has been described as a writer of the new noir fiction, and as a result of this most of his novels have dark plots that deal with the ugly side of human nature. That may sound unappealing to some readers, however, Lehane crafts his stories with such character development and thematic elements that they are well worth the read. I highly recommend Lehane to students who like to read not only for required assignments but for fun and who aren't deterred by longer texts. The novels are well worth the effort.
Denny Lehane has intricate, intriguing, and riveting novels. Budgeting time for reading was never a problem for me, in fact making sure I wasn't reading was a greater challenge. I read Shutter Island, Gone Baby Gone, and Mystic River. The plot twists, drama, and stories are all exquisite. Dennis Lehane writes primarily plot driven books, although they are elating to read, it can cause trouble when trying to write a strong thesis. I never had a problem with that but I can easily see how one would have difficulty linking the themes. The greatest challenge I faced was not summarizing too much when writing about Shutter Island, a book with a very intricate plot.
I personally found the works of Dennis Lehane to be especially influential and meaningful to me, considering how local the settings of his novels are. Many students at Wellesley High School are at least somewhat familiar with Boston, and this makes connecting to the stories and their diverse characters that much easier. I read Moonlight Mile, Shutter Island, The Drop, The GIven Day and Darkness Take My Hand. Lehane's work is easily recognizable, as many of his novels contain similar themes of mystery and deception strewn about them. His characters are very genuine and it is interesting to see how they solve their own conflicts. I would highly recommend Dennis Lehane's novels to incoming sophomores who enjoy stories about crime and mystery noir.
Now that you have written your essay, we ask that you reflect on the reading portion of the experience and write 100-150 words about your author.
Think of what you write as advice for someone next year and beyond, someone who (like you were doing last fall) is thinking about choosing your author - and maybe even the same three books - to read for the assignment.
