I enjoyed Dashiell Hammett's literature. He writes murder mysteries, and those are fun to read because you can guess who the murderer is with the rest of the characters. If your favorite pieces of literature are murder mysteries, Hammett is a good author for you. However, many of his novels take place in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's, and this can be challenging because the subject matter that he writes about is old fashioned and often times not related to our generation. Despite this, he is a strong writer who develops complex and unique characters, uses vivid imagery, and engages the reader in the plot of his novels. Hammett's writing is very unique, and if you want to learn more about him, I would suggest reading his novels.
Now that you have written your essay, we ask that you reflect on the reading portion of the experience and write 100-150 words about your author.
Think of what you write as advice for someone next year and beyond, someone who (like you were doing last fall) is thinking about choosing your author - and maybe even the same three books - to read for the assignment.
